Thread: Beach renourishment starting in October

I despise that term, because it 'renourishes' nothing but certain pockets!
They should call it what it is, SAND DREDGING...

There is still a big hole south of the pier about a mile off shore from the last "renourishment". Total guess, but maybe 1/4 to 1/2 mile diameter? It's 30 ft deep all around it, 40 ft in it. It has not filled in even with hurricanes which kind of surprises me.

We were down below Melbourne several years back and they were running sand sucker about 5-8 miles off shore there

They do a certain amount of testing to identify locations with good sand and not a lot of fines. I have my doubts that QC is very rigorous when it comes to execution.

What slays me is the way this beach dredging is 'rubber stamped' by FEMA and the very same Feds who are foot dragging about permitting repair of a pier that has been around since the 1960s...

Those deep holes are holding a lot of fish that would normally otherwise maybe use the structure of the pier for cover. Maybe they need to dredge a few pockets close to the pier so we can get some benefit out of this "improvement".
