What is the best way to keep flea's alive? Other than leaving them in the sand.
Keep them damp not wet, in a draining container because their waste is toxic to them, and cool but not frozen or hot.
I have kept them overnight by putting them in a bucket of ocean water and sand. keep it moist with the ocean water.
there are 2 ways that have worked for me. it takes a little effort but done right they will last up to 2 weeks. the easy way is in the winter keep them in slightly moist sand in the weather as long as it doesnt get below 40 or above 65 all u have to do is wash them and throw out the dead ones every day. this is the most important part 1 or 2 dead ones after a day will end up 40 or 50 on day 2.when its warm use moist sand on indirect ice a cooler with a basket works best. if it touches ice they die and wash and sort them daily and keep them cold after u start chilling them other than the bath. i have lost many pulling out a batch during a hot bite for 3 hours when its 80 and sunny.
sorry i read your post again after typing this so i left it without sand your best bet is the same but get a mesh bag sitting on a saltwater dipped sponge with a little moisture left use the indirect ice method
Thank weed that was just a joke I would like to harvest some soon and thought there might be a way to keep them alive or is it better just to catch daily.
I like to go out on the beach late at night just before bedtime and catch them for the next morning I put them in damp sand in a plastic container in the cooler. They need to be rinsed in saltwater and put in fresh sand to last all day. Remember they will drown if submerged for a long time.
