SEC Kids Tourney @ GSPPier
Sunday August 18 @9-11 am for kids 15 and younger.
I talked to Tom Steber @ Zeke's on Tuesday and he was excited about this event including a kids day at the pier. He mentioned that Lisa Laraway was concerned that some of the local fishermen would feel infringed upon. But I assured him that would not be the case, in fact many of the local fishermen would likely wish to help the kids and pros have a successful time. I know I do!
I didn't want to embarass John G on the open forum but Tom said J&M is donating most of the rod & reel combos for the kids.
I think that is just awesome and indicative of the attitude all the pier fishers should have to help make this event a rousing success.
I wanted to start talking this up on our forum ASAP to garner support and to beat the PierLife people to the punch ;-)

I told Tom Ard a few weeks back that we'd be good for a couple hundred push button combos and sabiki rigs for this event,I didn't know it was the same one you mentioned to me the other day Dave. A couple years ago,Tom was on vacation at Port St Joe while their kids tourney was going on. The sponsors fed, gave tackle packages and gave an award certificate to several hundred kids. Go to www. kidswinfishing.com to see what the vision of the two Toms are. The pier would be a great starting place because little fish and very young kids would be targeted.

I stepped out on my porch and took this photo at 8:55AM this morning. So dark the street light were still on and there has been constant rumbling of thunder and rain falling since the wee hours. I'm guessing the Kid's Tourney is a rainout.

Was it rained out? I've been in Birmingham the hole day so I don't know about the weather.

I don't know, but I dumped the rain gauge yesterday afternoon and the 8" tube ran over about 2PM today.

Yeah. John G. showed up with a couple of hundred rod and reel outfits for the kids and there was nobody there. Looks to me like they'd have at least told him it was cancelled and saved him the trouble. No good deed goes unpunished.

Well that just sucks!
You'd think the organizers would at least pick up the phone, post it on fb, or something!Last edited by FinChaser; 08-18-2013 at 10:52 PM.
