Absolutely not.
I guess you are supposed to cut it off. What about the hook and/or leader?

That's good. I will definitely cut them loose.
Bring some long handled bolt cutters. If you cut both sides of the hook it'll fall out very quickly. I'd prefer the fish not to have a hook/leader hanging from its mouth for weeks/months waiting for it to rust.
Newer hooks stand up very well to saltwater and I would specifically avoid using stainless steel hooks for fish you intend to release.
