Similar, same style.
I personally don't like that for the convicts. They have a hard/toothy mouth with a subtle bite. I personally use a #10 treble.
My opinion, the benefit of a circle or kahle hook would be catching the other bites besides sheepies.
To each its own though, not everyone wets a line the same way.
HR introduced me to the kahle hook in the early 1990s and I have used them in certain situations ever since.
You're right about it looking like a circle hook.
It's a kindof hybrid between the j and circle hooks designed to set in the corner of the fish's mouth as it turns away.
And like a circle you do NOT 'set' the hook either but let the fish tighten the line first.
I do use them for sheepshead with medium sized live shrimp carolina rigged and found they work well with ghost shrimp too.
For me the hookup ratio with them is a little better than the single j hook under most conditions.
They are great to use under a float too.
IMHO the smaller sizes are best (#8 or #6).
I use nothing bigger than a #4 kahle (but that's just me ;-)
just dont use them for whiting. i lose more kahle hooks to whiting swallowing them to their stomachs and having to tear up the hook to get it out.
#6 octopus
eagle claw khale hooks are da bom!!!

[/quote]A weighted snatch hook meant for snagging the fish in the body.
let me see if I have this straight - - - -
A ghost shrimp is a silver cricket and a silver cricket is a snatch hook????
I have one more question: What a Carolina rig? :yippee:
a ghost shrimp lives in the sand. a snatch hook aka (silver cricket) is another way of catching the sheephead by snatching them while there swimming around the pilands.

Thanks for the reply and the pictures. That really helps.
I've been seeing a lot of pictures with people holding King Mackerals. Are they safe to eat?
:shark
yea but still dont understand why some people do :poke: :poke: :poke: :puke:
far more tasty critters to eat... but dang them macks are fun to catch
A quick google search brought up an interesting article about eating kings:

If you don't like what it says, keep looking until you find one that you do like. :) There are plenty of voices on this issue. Seems like we would all be better off keeping the little guys to eat and popping off the big ones to fight another day. Yeah. Right.
I use the kahle hook for live baiting(bull minnows) the flounder, when I can get my butt off the end for the other fish....that just doesn't happen too often sad to say....since there isn't any fish in the shallows.....I like to hear that screeeeeming drag :headbang:
Fin thats a very good illustration I think you could teach a course on that
thanks for all the help.Got a couple more questions. What are the best months to catch spanish?????? i guess LY's would be a good live bait? would eagle claw Kahle hooks be a good hook on LY's or would some other hook work better?????? I bought som eagle claw 1/0 Kahle hooks at academy. They were the smallest Kahle hooks I could find.
:shark :shark
IMO the BEST months to catch spanish from the pier are April and October.
Use lures in April, and small LYs in October and small cigar minnows ANYTIME ;-)
And you will have better luck hooking them with a treble hook than a kahle. #6 to #2 depending on the size of the bait...
