Define 'better' ;-) lol
In 1999 I bought two Shimano TX 2000 reels on eBay ($19 each) for jigging and am still using one today.
This was the forerunner series to the aforementioned models with a graphite frame and metal spool.
I bought them simply because they had the finger casting trigger and were cheap.
I never expected them to last even 5 years, much less almost 20!
I dunno haha! I have a cheap daiwa 2500, the purple shimano 4000, and a shimano sorocco 5000. Feels like I could add to my collection lol. Maybe I'll have to add one of those Penn that a lot of people mention here and on FB. I'm a gear junky unfortunately...
Not sure of your budget but if it's a freshwater only reel, I really like the Pfleuger President series. 9 ball bearings. We abuse the heck out of ours in the rivers up here in the spring slinging 1oz egg sinkers and fighting fish in 5mph currents. They don't skip a beat. Too bad all the Gander Mountains closed, as Pfleuger made the same reel for them for a lot of years and Gander slapped their Guide Series label on them for about $15.00 less.
I don't know how anyone can spend more than about $50.00 on a saltwater spinning reel. I see these guys posting VS500's for $500 and I shake my head.
For freshwater I did splurge on a Quantum Smoke. Viking Guy helped me find it for a good price a couple years back.
They may be a great reel but I just can't get past the handle.
