Like you, Bill, all I know is what I read. Owner guy, Chad, said he couldn't afford to keep it going and if someone didn't step up to buy it he would have to shut it down at the end of the year. Except for the occasional PCity post, everything had been pretty dead over there for a long time anyway. Even though we might post some trivial stuff from time to time, there's almost always something new to read, and if Slim and Fin aren't hibernating, cool pics. We even get to keep up with what Harley and Dale are catching from 400 miles away.
Reminds me to say "thank you" to our lately absent admin/techno/Bubba guy and Fin and whoever else does the work to keep this great resource alive.
I guess the $600 dollars he took me for by not supplying me the gaffs I paid for ran out.
so sorry to hear that John, I had thought that had gotten taken care of , or worked out....I got taken by one of his buddies, but not close to that amount
Rich during the winter months and few good fishing reports it is nice to post something to keep some activity on here for us out of towners
just seeing beautiful pictures helps my cabin fever that slim has started to post
The second time we did business is the time your thinking about,he blamed it on his son in law who he claimed sold the stainless to a scrap yard. He dug into it,told me what happened and that he was sorry and took care of it. Well, when gaffs started running low,I sent him a check in full and all I can say is shame on me....
Wow....I guess you have learned a lesson the hard way again....I brought 10 gaff's back with me this fall (9-4prong & 1-5prong) with enough stainless rod on the garage floor for another 12.....guess I'll have to make a grill rack & rotisserie for the fire pit on the back porch ....got a whole leg of lamb I need to grill (rotisserie)
.
Agree 100% Bill. Traffic, within reason, keeps a forum alive. Without new posts, people stop checking in. So new posts, even about something like football, are good things. I put a pic up of a hog on one of your gaffs. Just for fun, kind of trivial I know, but it was a slow news week. :) Any story from the gulf with pictures makes my day. I have decided Mr. Harley is my hero. Man, I hope I still want to fish like that when I am his age. I hope I get to be his age. :)
I just need to move much closer, so maybe I could add real reports and not the crap I do put on here....winter time cabin fever
I have never met this Chad guy but I thought it was always kind of CS of him the way he swooped in and grabbed everything he could as fast as he could get it when ecpff crashed. Obie built it up to what it was and he didn't get any of the benefits as far as I know. Now Chad is selling it? Something just doesn't sound right about it to me.
Im very thankful to those trivial and useful post that r put on this site. I look forward to reading them when i get home. Pics or no pics its the casual conversation that you guys have with each other that make me want to read whats going on. I belong to that other site but there was never enough post to keep me interested, and i wanted to know what was going on over there cause i have occassioally fished there. I hope somebody decides to start it up again.
he said it was appraised at 10,000 and the asking price....no way I could see it ever had that much traffic, especially when the local out of towners weren't on the Panama city pier ....Ms Pat was almost the only one from Navarre ....and I agree jigslinger Chad reap a lot from Obie(the old forum) ...I had wondered since it went so fast that maybe it was set up before hand???? I sure wish Obie could have reap some $ for all his time and effort
Ironman, If you took 10 gaffs home I'm guessing they are "for sale"?!?! Are they so heavy that shipping would be out of the question?
Seems like you are in GS about a month after me.
Yeah its not easy to keep traffic up, we work hard at it. That's why we do facebook, blogs, ect. Its marketing, and the ads help some. This forum, is brought to you by J&M Tackle. Seriously, I just want to say thanks to John for his support on here, and keeping it all going and to the admins who keep it all running and happy. One thing that makes this forum different is that its not about the money. Its about fishing, and the good memories and friends you make doing it. Without all the good people of here, it wouldn't work. :drunk
No plans made as of right now....I did check into shipping and with the size of the box needed to ship it is between 15 and 18 dollars ....the weight isn't the real problem, just size of the box....I could send multiple in one box for pennies more then just the first one....Fin has offered to be a pick up point if needed, or could send direct....was hoping several might want them and could send together to minimize the shipping to 5.00 a piece depending on how many interested or how many sent....I should have left them behind, but Fin was almost nonexistent when I was there, listed on a few other east coast pier forum too....thought of ebay .....you know you only really need a few gaff's on a pier, put into the hands of the rats.... all is good to go then....but with the few kings hooked and caught really didn't need a gaff but a few times
the forums is up and running now.....soooooo who knows .....what is going on
Couple of things, first whoever didn't pick up their gaff from Bill when he was there missed out. Good gaffs, good price, good guy. Also a big "Thank You!" to John for sponsering this site, lots of great stuff here.
David
Thanks for the kind words....I had extra's and there were just a couple that didn't....no big deal, and if the kings don't show back up they(gaffs) won't be needed as bad either.....
and didn't know J&M was footing the bill for the site....
Thank You so much.....Johng and J&M ....your go to tackle store(Not just bait shop) that all your needs will be met
Hopefully the cobia will show up and give all the new gaffs a workout come April! In the mean time mine's not eating anything......
