Spanish Mackerel?
I am coming to gulf shores on july 21-25 and i am bringing my kayak. i have never caught a spanish mackerel and i really would like to catch one before i leave. would i have better luck in my kayak or on the gulf state park pier. If there are spanish around what should i use.
Thanks,

Right now, probly your yak, Id troll with a Spanish rig (8" wire leader with a small duster and a J hook, then another 5" piece of wire with a small clark spoon, twist the spoon's leader onto the eye of the J hook that is behind the duster) and a heavier spoon on another rod. fish them at different lengths, preferably the heavier spoon further out, as the Spanish rig will be much closer to if not on the surface.
Hope this helps!

Thanks this helps a ton. thank you. is there a certain speed i should go when trolling. Full speed? and are there special spots i should be looking for or just get past the breakers in front of my hotel and start trolling.

Look for feeding birds. Troll your lines under the birds, but don't sail under them. I don't know about yak speed.

not full speed, but close. Spanish like a fast bait. +1 on the birds

I cannot type either on this PUBLIC forum. I'm sure you caught 15 Spaniards and all those darned Blues from the pier. Lol.
