I'm not sure how proper it is for me to open this 'can', but wanted you fishermen to read for yourself just how endangered our freedom to fish is from nincompoops like some of the posters.

I never can understand why people get so bent out of shape when they see a shark in the ocean. Do they get so excited to see birds and squirrels in trees? It's their home. The people on there who said people fishing brought it in close to shore are idiots. Obviously they don't spend much time around the ocean. I almost got into a fistfight with s guy who wouldn't shut up about me wade fishing last summer. I was in a spot with no one about 30 yards on either side of me because I obviously don't like to throw gotcha with treble hooks in a crowd of people. He kept yelling he's bringing sharks in look out. I finally had enough and got out if the water and went and had a talk with him. He left soon after.
Doesn't Alabama have laws prohibiting angler harassment? I've fished relatively close (about the aame distance) to swimmers on gssp beach and never had a problem.Quote:

I would be tickled to get see a shark that size so close to the beach. Anybody got any idea what species it is?
Our society has become addicted to shock, outrage and hyperbole. Social media is the needle that delivers that drug. The truth will never get in the way of a good story. It's even difficult to get an unbiased news report IMHO. It's a tabloid mentality at work because that's what sells to the masses.
This frame is the one causing the most comments (but these reactively anti-fishing commenting morons don't even take the time to notice the terminal rig is NOT even in the water...

People need to get educated you have more of a chance to get killed by a hog or falling coconut then getting attacked by a shark we need to stop this irrational fear and slaughter of the beautiful and majestic creatures

I can find a lot of anecdotal evidence of people being killed and eaten by a shark, but all empirical evidence mentions the fact that a human was bitten and harmed. No mention of victim being consumed. Survivors of plane crashes from WW2, from shipwrecks, all say they saw sharks kill and eat people. Every study I have looked at over the years basically say the same thing, the shark bites, lets go. ( and spits and wipes his mouth) Just a taste test.
