From State Record Bass to Possible Jail Time...LOL
For all of you who fish without a fishing license, this story id for you. Stop being cheap and get a license. This guy caught a state record bass and bought a fishing license...three hours after he caught it. The fish was taken away. His name was scratched from the records. And, officials took the fish from him.
The only thing he is left with is a $1000 fine and possible 30 days in jail. All he had to do was get a $10.50 fishing license and he would be immortal right now.

Re: From State Record Bass to Possible Jail Time...LOL
Wow, sould of bought his license.
Re: From State Record Bass to Possible Jail Time...LOL
And how exactly are they "proving" he bought his license 3 hours afterward? I'm going to have to play devil's advocate heree.
What if the license simply had a delay in processing and he purchased it just before he went fishing?
I think there's more to the story. They are just wanting that $1000 and the publicity this story will bring.
We will see after the hearing I guess.
Re: From State Record Bass to Possible Jail Time...LOL
^^^ Nope. His license expired in April 2011. He sent his girlfriend to go get a new license while he was trying to get the fish weighed.
Here is the story on Field and Stream:

From the angler, “I’ve had several tickets for fishing without a license before, me and my two kids too. It ain’t that we don’t mean to get them, we just forgot to get them.”
Re: From State Record Bass to Possible Jail Time...LOL
It really wouldn't make me a difference if I'm the "official" record holder or not. Whether or not he had a license or not doesn't change the fact he caught it. As far as the jail time and fines, that would suck big time!!!

That is BS! ::)
IMHO, ANY scoflaw like him should be made an example of... :mrt:
The fact that he tried to 'beat the system' just to gain the notoriety of catching a record fish should make ANY harsh sentence he gets seem even more fitting. :spank:

I think that all licenses include the time of purchase on the license.

Well, the more descriptive story on FnS verifies this guy's backyard brilliance. In hindsight, had he just kept the darn thing alive in a cooler, he'd gotten away with it. I personally think the record should stand, but he should still face the fines. Either way, rules are rules, and well, his cop-out excuse is certainly pathetic at best. How do you "forget" multiple times to buy a license after getting fined multiple times?

They are also saying that the fish may not have been caught legally. I read where he was catfishing and had two anchors out. There was abream in the Bass' belly, and I think the guy said the bass spit one out.
It could be that the bass choked on a bream

Or maybe he stuffed some bream in its belly to get those extra needed ounces!

Re: From State Record Bass to Possible Jail Time...LOL
Or just have it mounted and don't tell people when you caught it -- it would be a great bass to wall hang, even if he could not claim a record. Did he think no one would notice? :horse:
Greed. It causes more than fish to be caught. :spank: :spank:
