What is the best wind direction for surf fishing at OB or GS?
Anything thats not outta the north lol, honestly ive caught fish in all types of winds but my best days the wind has always been out of the ssw
Any direction less than 15 mph ;-)
Yep, what #r said.
if a north wind meant a cold front came through, I would take a full week of it right now!
Problem with a north wind in (late) summer is the 'dog' flies!
I do prefer a north wind for surf fishing (most of the time) as it gives a little plus momentum in casting distance away from shore (as opposed to negative momentum with a south wind), and it smooths the water surface making depth observations more precise for placing casts.
Thank you!
Like many other things that plague us, I know dog flies come from the North---I you tell me exactly where in the North they come from, I will gladly go there and kill them. One at a time or en mass. Back when I was running charters, I've had the d@mned things show up forty miles offshore and I know they didn't ride out on the boat with me.
If I manage to pass through (or under or around) the Pearly Gates, the reason for dog flies is another question I want to raise---along with ticks in general and seed ticks in particular, but that's a subject for another time. Here I go, hijacking another thread.
