If I were in GS area at the time of the Pompano bite, is it better/more productive to fish for them from the pier or from the beach in the area where sand fleas are found in the surfline? That is assuming that I am using the right bait and tackle.

I have had great luck fishing for them off the pier.my favorite bait to use is a small piece of fresh dead shrimp with an orange piece of fishbites about 1/2 inch long.another great thing that works for me is to use a looney jig with the same size and color fishbites.I have never has any luck with the wal mart (fresh 30 years ago sand fleas).I cant remember who it was that taught me these two methods.but I am pretty sure it was someone on this site.so I am not trying to take credit for anyones knowledge.and as for places to catch them I have had pretty good luck on both sides of perdido pass(beach side not in the pass)
I agree, gnomepunter. The beaches at Perdido Pass have been worth visiting for us to catch Pompano, and a few reds and flounders. But it seems that it is also about timing, which points to how lucky I might be if I am there when the fish are. Just love being on the beach and in the surf, fishing.
