Be thankful for the rules at GSSP Pier.

Just got back from a week at Panama City Beach. The city pier had almost no parking. The county pier had plenty of parking and tons of swimmers RIGHT UNDER THE PIER. The St. Andrews State Park pier on the gulf side didn't make it past the second sandbar and had tons of swimmers and kayakers under and around the end. The pier on the bay side was between a boat ramp and a boat rental dock. All of them had and endless barrage of jet ski and boat traffic all around. The fishing was of course terrible. Be glad you have rules in place and someone to enforce them at GSSP pier.

never saw it that bad at the dan russel pier, but then never was there in the summer when the water was warm either ....all I know Is..... I am very happy Gulf Shores finally got rebuilt longer and better then it once was....some fond memories on the old but making new ones on the new

Parking sucks here I drive by the pier on the weekends and im not parking in the grass or side of the rd in my truck this guy not getting a ticket .... they need to make folks pay to park to keep the parking a lot open for the pier not for beach 5 bucks to park then pay 3 more if u want to fish or get a free parking pass when we have a pier pass Just my 2 cents

Ya, not good when the beach goers get a free ride on the backs of the fishermen. Just think of the additional revenue if they had to pay. OR just think how nice it would be if they weren't taking our parking spots:D.

You also need to look at the fact that most visitors to our area wouldn't mind spending 5 bucks for parking. Not to mention they have all the conveniences right there at the pier. The parking would still be packed and the lines to get in through the teller booth would get pretty long during high traffic months. I'm just happy with what the state has provided us with and welcome the tourists that frequent out pier, whether it be just to walk out or wet a line.

yeah that's true they pay just like in gs and its packed also maby a parking deck or a parking lot made with rocks or wood chips or I might me thinking outside the box now hahahaha:D

10-4 on the rocks, and have them sharpened regularly. I'd even go along with a season, or year-long parking permit in addition to the pier permit, as long as it wasn't too expensive---stick it on my windshield with pride.

Dang, I'm ready for cooler weather and water!!! I want to stick some gaff holes in some big fish. I even want to catch another crevalle to try cooking it.

Regarding the rules at the pier, I'm glad we have them, even though it's hard to enforce them all the time. We can always tell somebody, "Hey, that's against the pier rules," then call the powers that be if necessary. Somebody put some thought into them and even though they don't make everybody happy, they keep the friction down.
