Hi guys,
I was looking at the way some people lock down their rods and equipment on their carts, which got me to thinking about theft. Is it an issue on the Pier, seemed like everyone was pretty decent last time I was there.

As for the most part the regulars on the pier I would trust with anything but during busy times you will get an occasional visitor to the pier that might be prone to pick up something that doesn't belong to them. Last year there was one person caught walking off with a rod that didn't belong to him.
http://www.gulfshorespierfishing.com...62/index2.html In 2012 there was a little kid who caught some negative attention -- the discussion suggested that a parent was using him to pilfer, but if it was proven it did not show up on the board. I did not hear them mentioned much last summer.
My stuff is so junky no one would want to steal it, except for the cart.
I've had my tackle box raided before. They took everything that was worth anything. Now I only carry whatever I will be using that particular day.
They took my whole tackle box!!! I had 2 pliers, 3 knifes, all the bungy cords I had tied to the handle of my cart, and a bucket stolen last year, one teenager I'd never met tryed to get one of my rods but that didn't work out in his favor. I tell u we had some major white trash almost take residence on the Fairhope pier last year.
Hi. What I did was, I went to West Marine one day and had them make me a 4 ft., 1/8" dia. vinyl coated cable with crimped loop ends. Costed me around $4 I believe. Since then, I have been using these to secure my rod/reel to the cart using a combination lock. Just my 2 cents.
I watched Peaches 'snake' a king off a guys float rig, and said nothing.
Does that make me an accessory? lol
I've been fishing the pier off & on for years and have not had a problem with theft.
Other than I had a nasty squall line steal my favorite hat, but I am not sure that counts.....
EMS , I was out there last Oct. and the entire end had been taken over by a very unsavory crew . No one wanted to even venture out there because of the (TRASH ) I certainly would not drive over there with my wife to fish with that kind of activity on the pier.
I have seen things on the Panama city pier a few years back, you can tell sometimes who to watch....I had my cobia rod leaning on the rail straight across from me while sitting on the cooler eating a sandwich and drinking some water....three guys(south of the border) were looking at it and heard one say there is one if you want it take it....I was ready but I think they realized it might have been mine....no way they were sight seeing ....they were looking for something to take and I got up and followed them off when they moved on....that is the pier where I decided maybe a carry gun is needed if there after dark....some of the locals strongly suggested it....but heck after all day, I am done no way do I need anymore then that....time for food, shower, take care of the fish and get to bed, for the next day....I hate a thief and watch some people whether my stuff or not....I try and be very observant
