Sharks,sharks,sharks,and more sharks.
Just checked the site for alabama state parks and filled out the survey for gulf state park and made comments for sharks around pier.don't know if it will do any good but my wife says its the squeeky wheel that gets the grease.if everyone fills it out everyday maybe someone will check into the problem so everyone try to fill it out and make comments about the sharks.

I filled one out too. It's bad when you have to use a 706 with the drag cranked down just to land a few Spanish. Maybe it will help.....

Completed my survey and pointed out also that the sharks could soon be a threat to swimmers and tourist which I do think is possible considering the number that's starting to be around That should be hard to ignore

I hope the survey achieves the desired effect. Corporations and Governments have a way twisting the facts to suit their own purposes.

That is why I tried to be proactive in my comments, recommending the draconian regulations be relaxed to allow at least some shark harvest.
If that is not changed, in the future we may ONLY a shark fishery due to the current ecological unbalance.
Of course odds are their solution (i.e. the powers that be) could be somewhat of a backlash effect to limit fishing (on the pier) as some sort of extension of the current anti-shark fishing from shore laws, or the NO CARCASS DUMPING as was tried a few years agoThe numbers of sharks around the pier are insufferable and it's getting worse every year. This was never a problem on the 'old pier' which I fished from for over 30 years. The sharks were eating, or trying to eat, or waiting to eat ANY mackerel that was hooked and few were landed intact if at all. There was a LOT of complaining and discussion among the anglers at the rail and a commonality emerged that something needs to be done!
Of course the simplest solution would be to allow anglers to land these sharks when they are hooked and retain the legal ones.
But if we say nothing those decisions will be made without our input.
So at least we will have 'had our say' ;-)Last edited by Pier#r; 10-02-2014 at 08:14 AM.
