Stainless tends to standout quite a bit when the water is clear.
I use bronze colored #4 4X Strong Treble, they are Eagle Claw Brand. Strong & sharp.
I bought a box of 100 about 15 years ago and still have about 50 left. Having that many left means two things:
1. The hooks hold up well, just make sure the rinse them with freshwater after a days fishing.
2. I dont fish enough.
I've heard a variety of opinions on the subject over the years, and here's mine FWIW:
Bronze and NiCad are less expensive (if lost) and will likely 'corrode' out of a fish faster than stainless.
Stainless is more 'brittle' and I've seen hook points break off occasionally.
All hooks need to be checked for sharpness and defects prior to use!
Bronze is usually less visible to fish in our 'stained' water.
But there are times when the bronze color (brown) can be seen easier by the fish due to lighting and water clarity.
Same goes for using 3X or 4X hooks.
There is usually no need with lines less than 15# or 12# to have a hook thicker (and heavier in the case of small baits) than 2X.
Also size does matter (at times).
That's why I occasionally use the silver colored hooks in a variety of sizes and strengths to match the bait size and conditions.
But most of the time the 4X bronze will work just fine especially for kings.
:-\
I bought some of the tin or silver finished VMC hooks last year to replace some hooks on some plugs. Made up a few leaders with them, and they seemed to blend in to an LY really good and caught kings. They aren't stainless, though, its just a silver finish. I don't know about any stainless treble hooks myself.
If using braid, use 4x...
Who the heck needs trebles any way :poke:
dont get any stainless steal hooks, if and when a fish breaks you of, if the fish has been hooked good, the hook will stay in and starve the fish on acount of it not being able to eat, a mustad bronze size 1 (for king) or a size 3 (for spanish) which will rust out over a short time.
