I am bringing my family and really want to wade the surf with my son like we do here in Texas. my question is it good for trout and reds like the Texas gulf coast? I would imagine it would be but with y'alls clear water I was thinking in might be different. any information about this would be great. lures or live bait?

With your experience on the big coast, you should manage well here.
You may notice we usually don't get quite as much wind here as you likely encounter there.
We use some live bait (mostly minnows and shad now with all the shrimp lovers in the water now),
but a variety of artificials work as well.
Topwaters in the am, or any other time with subdued light and light winds.
Sinking hardbaits (Mirrolures, Unfair, Yo Zuri, etc.) can be productive most of the time (day).
Soft plastics (Fin-s, Zoom Fluke, Gulp, DOA, etc.) can be deadly in fairly clear water even during the day hen fished deep.
Are you planning on fishing near where you are staying or venturing about?
Attachment 6316. this is the area we are staying. I don't mind venturing to a different spot.
IMHO you will find more trout & redfish if you try farther west around the pier or even farther west at little Lagoon Pass,
or east a few miles to Perdido Pass.
Not that there aren't ANY at that location, but it far removed from the passes where they egress.
