A Spadefish safety tip!
For those who successfully bring a nice spadefish over the rail, you'll want to have your hand towel ready to grab the fish. With the other hand, remove the hook with your pliers. You see, spadefish gorge themselves on stinging jellyfish. If you try to hold that fish in your bare hand without partially covering the fish's head with a towel, those pieces of stinging jellyfish go everywhere. You don't want that getting on your hands and certainly not propelled into your eyes! Certainly, if you get any jellyfish on your hands, wash them off, because, again, you don't want that stuff in or near your eyes.

Good tip Tom!
These two big fellas were screaming like girls when that happened to them last week... LOL
Honestly, I am not sure Tom. But your speculation has merit as recent rains would have brought an influx of nutrients into eastern LL and a subsequent increase in macroscopic life feeding on that...
Rain/Red minnows shortage this...
