Pier fishing tackle suggestions
We have a bunch of fishing gear but it's all for wading with artificials.
I'd like to start pier fishing.
Need some help determining tackle.
Would appreciate suggestions on rods, reels, line, leader, tackle.
I'd love some advice on a couple different rod and reel set ups also. Was thinking a 706z or 704z and ugly stick for the heavier set up and maybe a lighter setup for different species & artificials.
Thanks for any guidance.

In the upper right corner of this page there's a Search box. Just put [pier tackle] in the box, click and read. There's a wealth of information from previous discussions on this exact subject.

7ft medium light spinning rod,3000 series reel,10lb test, gotcha plugs, bubble rigs.that is what I use for Spanish and anything smaller.carolina rig,jig head with gulp shrimp and live shrimp for the shallows. For the kings, I haven't fished for any yet but a 6000 or 6500 class reel 7ft rod medium heavy, 20lb test and wire leaders.

Chasintail, thanks for the response. We've always been baitcasters, throwing artificials while wading. I have a 17 year old son that wants to do some pier fishing with me this summer. He is left handed. He will use right handed bait asters but a right handed spinner is a bit easier for him (since he can reel with his left hand. That's why I was kinda leaning to the 706z.

As you can imagine, this question has been asked many times in many forms. The advice from eym_sirius is right on the money, and you will find PLENTY of information through the search feature.
Good fishing.

If you haven't bought yet, do yourself a big favor and go to J & M Tackle in Orange Beach when you get down here.
The best way to select a rod and reel is to see and feel it in person and get the HONEST recommendation from true experts.

Do a search for "preferred pier gear". I asked a bunch of questions a while back. Lots of good answers on that thread.
