Thread: dauphin island in may

Headed down to dauphin island in a few weeks and wandering if I could catch some redfish by the jetties and behind the golf course and what else could be lurking ? Specks? Whiting? Sheepies? And I hope to be having live shrimp or catch some pinfish for bait for some reds thanks to all

All the above, and maybe Spanish macs too. Just depends on the conditions, tides and weather. Bring some artificials too, jigs, spoons, bubble rigs.

The area by the golf course is perfect for specks. Saw a few Reds caught there as well, but never by me. Good luck!

Better have more than one bubble rig. If the Spanish are there you will inevitably get cut off. It is sad to be fishing, find what they are biting only to lose it on the next cast #$^&%$$%% knowing that was the only one you had.

I've never seen them at Academy, Basspro usually has them.

I have not had cause to use 'Bubble Rigs' around Pelican Bay since the pier shoaled in.
Have used them a few times since from the gulfside beach and jetty, but spanish mackerel are rare in both locations.
I concentrate on the trout/red/flounder bite, mostly using live shrimp or artificials.
Fresh dead shrimp is great for ground mullet and white trout in Pelican Bay and catfish luv it too ;-)

Pretty much the same for the east end jetties but fishing there is VERY much more 'tide-prone'.

And yes, BPS still has the "Straw Rigs" (w/bubble).

Yea I saw them a couple days ago and I'm headed to cedar point Sunday night hoping for my first red of the season but got two sailcats last night of decent size but gave them away not what I was looking for
