Im looking to get a van staal because Im a lefty and I like the bailess feature. They only make the left hand model in the 150 and 250 sizes. Is the 250 overkill for kings? The capacity of the 250 is closer to that of the 706s but I know I could also just use braid backing on the 150. Does anyone own either of these sizes and have any advice they wouldnt mind sharing?
I have sizes from 150-250 and I must say that given those two options I would go with the 150 if you weren't planning on using it as a cobia reel. Paired with the correct rod for the style of fishing you plan on doing it will make a killer setup.
You can put enough 20# braid on the 150 to land anything you would ever hook off the pier.
Okay great. I was leaning towards the 150 because of the weight. Do yall have any suggestions of nice lightweight graphite blanks for king? Ill probably stop by the rod room in may to check some out but id like to have a few to research before I get there. I built up a seeker 806 composite last summer but the tip is a little softer than I like.
Calstar GX8 is the perfect 150 blank. We put 300yds of 20 Power Pro and topshot with 125yds of 16 mono.
