Visiting
Hello. New to this forum. Myself and three of my old buddies from high school are coming to Gulf Shores on Jan 24 to do a little fishing and hang out. Looking forward to it for sure. From what I've read on here it doesn't look to be the best time but we're going anyway. I've fished in destin, anna marie, and panama city on vacation in the past with some pretty good luck. But it's always been summer or October. Any knowledge about winter fishing you guys could pass along would be great. We're staying on Orange Beach at the Phoenix I. Looks like we'll be about 3 miles from the pier and just a few miles from the pass. Thanks!

Re: Visiting
There should be whiting and pompano in the surf, maybe redfish. Same at the pier plus sheepshead.

Re: Visiting
Cool, thanks! Those sheepshead look like giant bluegill. I bet they taste pretty good. Also, where's the best place to grab a beer and some oysters?

Re: Visiting
Don't forget some warm clothes, that humidity with wind and cold cuts through you. Mudbugs and papa roccos are always good chill spots for a drink or two. If ya'll bring down some light gear, rig up some light carolina rigs, and you'll get onto something at the pier. You can always put out a bottom rig this time of year with so few people of there. Redfish are hit and miss, but they are usually there during the coldest nights. Don't be afraid to fish the shallows, the end isn't always the best fishing. Good luck, have fun!

Re: Visiting
Lump,
I'm going to be down there the week before you are. I know it is not the best time to fish, but I want to familiarize myself with the area.....
I need a break from Atlanta...

Nice. Let me know how it goes. Hopefully we'll get some of the nice weather then that they're having now. Looks like 70's this weekend. Good luck to you.
