I am from Florida and generally fish for snook. I am staying on West Beach Blvd in Gulf Shores near and im near the beach and Little Lagoon. Can anyone give me some advice or fishing reports for fishing the beach for reds and other fish that are in the area and also tell me if the Lagoon is worth fishing.
ANY ADVICE IS APPRECIATED!
Never had the pleasure of catching a snook, but I am aware of the reputation they have. Search the threads for your target species and you will find more than enough information for you to use. What doe's a good snook outfit consist of? We have caught 20# red's on 8#-10# line on the beach many times. I use mostly 6'6 to 8' ugly sticks for surf fishing, so you may be able to use the gear you are already using. Wish you luck, and welcome to Alabama.
My rod and reel set up for snook is a shimano stradic 4000 with a 7ft star rod and i have on 15 pound braided power pro and tied to 30 pound fluro.
I wish we had some fish on our list here that would compare to snook.
instead we have sharks. LOL
That may be God's way of keeping us humble about our fishery, because if we had snook (on top of everything else) then we might not want to go Heaven cuz then this would be it ;-)

We have some nice speckled trout and redfish and spanish mackerel in and around the Little Lagoon and some ladyfish and bluefish thrown in for giggles, and we have sharks...
Wade fishing the mouth of Little Lagoon is popular, but most likely to be productive early and late in the day. Similarly the beachfront can be productive in spots where the beach bar creates a tidal 'pool' or trough deep enough for specks and reds to press baitfish up to the shoreline. Throwing topwater baits at dawn or dusk are often the ticket for that followed or preceeded by a period when subsurface baits like mirrolures (TT-S, mirrodine, M-52, etc.) or Yozurri diving plugs (Pins minnow, etc.) can be productive. Even a fast retrieved silver spoon can be effective at times.
The less light there is the shallower the fish seem to be comfortable coming in to feed. They are chasing small baitfish and following mullet schools.
So are the sharks ...
During the day the fish retreat deep and sulk (in the AC sipping iced tea and cold beer) making them less accessible to shore-bound anglers and waders.
But they may still feed occasionally, especially around the time of tide change or under cloudy conditions or when a nice fat live shrimp or LY is dragged around in front of them.
And the sharks may show up and crash the party, spilling the beer and eating bait intended for specks and reds.
But that's just part of it all in the summertime.

i think that every report should be followed by "and so are the sharks!" LOL
was down last weekend fishing ~5-8 miles out around rigs, no snapper, 2 spanish a ton of shark. can anybody give me a current report, i am debating on coming down this coming weekend and trying again for Kings, Spanish and Snapper. have the sharks eased up?? a current report is greatly appreciated. good luck all. will be coming from north alabama. thanks
I've seen reports of good numbers of kings and snapper on the rigs & reefs but I think you need to be a little farther out for a the big snapper. Not way out, but maybe more like 10-15 miles.
