Ill be down at Ft. Morgan June 3 (Tuesday) thru Saturday, I plan to kayak fish Dixie Bar area at Ft Morgan! Any help will be greatly appreciated! Ill be fishing with a shimano Cardiff and a med/heavy Falcon Rod with 15lb line, hopeing 1/4 oz jig heads with Cocahoes or either fish the bottom with croaker and 1/2oz weight! Any productive suggestions will be appreciated! Thanks I'm a big time hunter/dog trainer and a Peary time fisherman ( when hunting season is over ) !

I know the Dixie bar is good fishing but there are several other areas on fort Morgan that holds plenty of reds
Are you an experienced kayaker? The Point & Dixie can be treacherous, especially when the tide is running hard.
Rough water & fast current, get dumped and you can get separated from your ride quickly.
Lots of boat traffic, put a flag up, carry a loud whistle and highly recommend a buddy.
Be careful.
I might also try some berkley gulp shrimp with the 1/4 ounce jig heads. I prefer the New penny color on a white jig head. I would also try using a bull minnow, LY, finger mullet, or live shrimp. A carolina rig would work well. I hope this helps.
If you're targeting bull reds with the Berkley Gulp, I'd suggest the 4" on a 3/8 oz or 1/2 jighead.

Dutch & I have great success with Reds/Blacks with these in the surf.

Thanks for All of your replies, as for being safe in my kayak, Ill try not to get too far for my comfort! And I will stop somewhere and get some larger jig heads and some Berkley gulp shrimp to use when I get close to gulf shores! As to derekb's post, can u list a few of the other places to fish at Ft Morgan ! Thanks for y'all's time!
Snapper season starts tomorrow so I expect the boat launch and associated traffic through the pass to be a zoo. Along with the strong current along the eastern edge of the pass, please exercise caution as you approach the tip of the point. I've turtled over the Bar more than once and you're swept away at a surprising pace. The bite is much better with tidal movement in the water, but paddling back against an outgoing tide and north wind can be deadly. Keep your safety flag up and a whistle/horn in reach to ward-off inattentive boaters that are omnipresent.
Specks are in the area, as are tons of Spanish within reach of a kayak in the bay. For the bulls, drift a Carolina-rigged live croaker with a 1-2oz egg sinker and a 7/0 circle hook and hold onto it with a light drag as you drift across the bottom. The egg sinker will roll and "hop" off the bottom creating puffs of sand/mud. Reds key in on the disturbance and it's game on. I would advise against anchoring up on the bar this week with the NOAA forecast and high volume of boats that will be going through there. Don't discount live/fresh dead shrimp as Chile mentioned above, we have done very well there with a homemade double drop rig.
Bring a lighter spinning rod loaded with 10-12lb mono for casting to feeding schools of spanish you may encounter. I would keep it rigged with either a bubble rig that you can cast a country mile or a 1/2 - 3/4oz chrome spoon with a short section of 15lb wire.
I would normally offer to join you as I love fishing the fort almost once a week, however I have committed to an offshore trip on Wednesday and Weeks Bay kayak trip Saturday. Good luck and stay safe.
