Heading down Friday for some fishing. I'll stop in at J&M to grab tackle and bait for my catfish pole. Has the fishing been better a Perdido Pass or the Pier? I know it's not the ideal time but this is when I can get down there. Do I need a long handled net or gaffe? See yall soon.
As for the pier, I would not invest in a gaff. If you should hook-up, there is usually someone who will come over with a net or gaff. J&M is a wise choice for getting rigged up, and for advise where to go.
Yeah, J&M helped me out during my Spring trip from hell (hell was caused by wife and her besties, entertaining but not conducive to fishing time lol.) I mainly fly fish but do have a catfish rod lol
Guess my 12# mono will be okay? Do I need to run hi-viz line?
At the pass wall or even rocks a long handle net would be advised.....I think min. 8ft for the wall.....a little less for the rocks......sheep head might be good right tight to the rocks now, with shrimp or crabs
Use 12# CLEAR mono or fluorocarbon line. Bring some 8# clear mono or fluorocarbon and downsize if you see fish but aren't getting bites. Most everything you would want to keep and eat is very line shy. I use braided main line to an egg sinker and small black swivel, then a 30"-ish fluorocarbon leader. Lighter line=more bites.Quote:

It's usually not an issue unless you hook a king mackerel and cross lines with those using mono. For sheepshead you fish straight down by the pilings.Quote:
