What will hit a cobia jig OTHER THAN OBVIOUSLY COBIA

One area that I'm still learning is cobia fishing and therefore I'm not overly familiar with cobia jigs. Anyways I have acquired an arsenal to include one with a curly tail to practice for cobia season and to use them for other uses. Question is will other types of fish such as bull reds, jacks, tarpon? Hit a curly tail cobia jig if presented when they are feeding mood? Just curious since you can launch them a country mile and get into schools before others etc.... appreciate any input even if not so nice.

When the big schools of reds or jacks are busting through they will hit anything. Especially the reds, you could throw out your flip flop with a treble hook and it would get eaten.

Ive heard lots of guys hooking reds floating out a bait only to loose them because another red came along and ate the cork and broke the line.

I've seen it lots of times, where somebody fishing for cobia tosses out his cobia jig for practice, easing the boredom of waiting for a cobia sighting, etc. and a big redfish would smack it. I'd imagine that it's a similar deal with jacks. Tarpon will hit feathered jigs, too. There's one way to find out for sure, though - Fling it and see what happens!

The minor concern with randomly tossing an expensive cobia jig is a cutoff if the other fish that hits it is toothy, but that's fishing.

Yes it is a risk to loose one or two by practicing with them on other species or just blind practicing. But it is fishing and I'd rather practice now and loose a few so that I become accurate enough. So that come time for shot on a cob I'll put it where it counts.
