Got to go with my 706s :moon:. I guess my Gator 596 for kings.
My calico 706 on the pool cue
Oh yeah and momoi diamond 20lb test as a top shot over either dacron or braid.
Mine is probably either of my2 vs200 and rain shadow 1067's..
With PLENTY of 30lb braid..(no backing or topshot)
But I'd like to get another glass rod for snobbling ASAP
Well jump.
my 704 and my brothers penn battle 5000
U know its a little over kill, wish I would have bought the 6000, but my Penn Sargus 8000 on my 8 ft Profile rod. Reel filled up with 250yd 30# braid backing then filled the rest of the way with 16# Momoi Illusion.
Yeah but I need more yak tackle too.. I think I fish too much

Personal preference, but I don't care for momoi, I'd take ande any day
i bought one of them(3 actually) penn fierce outfits from j&m's that everybody here recommended. it has served its purpose so far. 15 lb hi-vis stren.
Favorite: Phenix Black Diamond Hybrid with k-series guides and vs-150
Most Fun: cui noodle with 706
my favorite hands down would be my custom blue 706 that michael emerson painted for me, loaded w/ 15lb ande back country, on either my 9'8'' finwick, kinda heavy, but great all the same, or my 8'4' gator BS596 (both of wich have extensions), two wire frame guilds and 3-4 fujis
Y'all will laugh, probably, but I would rather catch a king on this than anything I have so far:

That's the 8 foot Wright McGill Blair Wiggins heavy action with an Okuma Avenger Baitfeeder 50 loaded with 350 yards or so of 12# Momoi Illusion. The 22 pound king I caught with it last year was almost more than I could handle....but most of what I caught on it was 10 to 15 pounds and it did fine. Slings cigs forever. Will probably snap like a toothpick some day, I know, but until then.....
706,Lamiglas MB114F extended to 10'3" and Diamond Illusion 16lb on top of 20lb dacron.

When I use this, it means my grandson is with me, and it just don't get any better than that
I am happy with one of my penn 6500 and the shorter(7ft) custom rod from Rocks reef ,I got many years ago....but I have found I can cast a little farther with the 706 or 302....have turn and brought back to the pier on the east coast 8 foot sharks....putting the test to rod and reel....actually trying to see if it would break....and didn't....just got to love that set up..... for me
oh and 17lb stren that was very hard to break fish off with...was lifting kings out of the water trying ....but momoi now
.sorting through ..... what to bring

The only thing I have that stands out is the 40 year old Betts fiberglass rod that has been rebuilt. I have a 750 Penn on it with 15# Momoi. I'm looking forward to having a new favorite when John finishes the stick to go with my Penn 550 bait runner with 20# braid and a top shot of 15# Momoi.
custom rod, batson 8-15lb 8ft blank. i can chunk a cig a few country miles. and my 704. manual pick up, bigger counter weight, drilled out spool.
A 30 year old zebco glass 2-piece rod and a shakespeare reel thats about 10 years old, not sure which model, loaded with 17# big game.
Penn Conquer 7000(not as big as it sounds) and a Rain Shadow 1027 for kings
Penn Slammer 360 and a MHX(white)S842-2-W-MHX for everthing else
I need a new shimano :(
Ugly stix medium with Okuma 65, lol, killed a few Kings with it, however, I have just today bought a new rod from John, and put my Okuma on it, would really like a pre-owned VS-200 reasonably priced : ) Oh, 15lb high vis top shot with 20lb braid.
Fin, I think you should let that grandson reel em in! :poke1:
Stradic ci4 4000 on my American rodsmith titanium serie mf rod, 12 lb pp super 8 slick for lure or stradic fj 5000 on g loomis imx serie light action for live bait. those two are Lightest of my collection and strong enough for most inshore species. Maybe that's the reason I find myself picking those two setup over my collection of custom rods on van staals and accurate. I use my vs and accurate for surf fishing or offshore.

He usually reels in his own fish, but this was a big Redfish and he yelled at me to take the rod. It finally got in the pilings and cut off.
btw, after that he started using my rig.

I don't always kingfish, but when I do, I prefer Penn 706 (15# Ande-clear) on my custom 7 foot Seeker (LB 704).
:headbang: :fishing:Quote:
Stay hooked up, my friends.
My cig slinger is a 704 with manual conversion on a John G custom. 12 or 15 lb trilene big game.
My artificials rig is a Zebco Cardinal 7 on a 7 1/2ft uglystick 12 lb trilene
Still learning the 706 and manuel on my mitchells ,so i fall back on old faithful 850ss on penn rod killed tons of kings on pier and boat.
