will this work?

Awhile back I bought one of those crack-it type of glow sticks. My thought was that I could weigh it down with a pyramid sinker so that it floated a foot or two off the bottom, attach it to a thin rope/twine and toss it out into the surf at night and then fish around it. Is that just crazy talk or would it actually attract something? And by something, I mean other than rays/catfish/other less desirable species. Otherwise I'm going to give it to the little ones and let them play with it.

I don't know how it would work in the surf, but I would give it a shot off a pier in the bay and watch to see if it attracted bait around it. Years ago I used to mount an old style seal beam headlight in an innertube and float it off of nonlighted docks and caught fish with it. If it attracts minnows the predators will be lurking in the shadows.

I think it is probably wishful thinking, and like you said, better around some kind of structure. Alas, come night time, I am usually home with kids and after that, I'm beat (no late night shark fishing for this guy). I think I'm going to get a few of them, tie them all together with some sinkers, toss them out there, and if nothing else, make a cool looking glow under the surface and try to fish it. It isn't like unsuccessful past fishing attempts have caused me to stop. Heck, 98% of the time I don't catch anything and yet here I am, asking all kinds of questions and getting excited for the next trip.

Hell its worth a try. When are you heading back down? Ill have a year wait once we hit July. I'm chomping at the bits
