X-Rap questions

Ok guys, as stated before fairly new to pier fishing. Have been coming the last 3 years and had pretty good sucess with Spanish and blue fish. I have seen quite a few post lately about kings hitting xRaps. My only experience with a XRap was behind a bubble rig and it was fairly successful catching Spanish. When fishing for Kings with one what size is most common. X10? Also what is the best way to rig it? Also, ive got 5-6 rods that I am bringing and want to be prepared for whatever is hot at the time. I will have a king set up for drifting live bait and a Spanish bubble rig. What and how should i rig the others so that I am prepared to be more versatile. In the past I have only carried 2 rigs. Any advice would be great and appreciated! Thanks.

In my opinion the X10 is a little small for kings and hard to throw with any distance. Most use I think the X12 and X14 but what do I know I'm just a googan.

For Kings what I have seen work well at the PCB piers is the XRap SR14. I think it weighs about 1.5 ozs. The downside is losing a $15 lure.

Sometimes it triggers a bite when not much else is working.

What they said and the top selling colors go in this order: olive, pink, silver, blue mack, and bone. O and P make up 73% of the sales based on color and the 12 outsells the 14 by about a third at J&M according to our system. Glad you asked, I was wondering what the ratio was.

Do you rig them behind a leader?

Definitely use a wire leader.

Reporting tools are amazing! I wish like heck I could find an analyst position that had something to do with fishing instead of healthcare.... I'll be by Wednesday with my nieces, it's their 1st trip down, gotta get some J&M attire for them.

I found some Rebel WindCheaters a few years back, a lot less expensive.

Just found them on Amazon for 8.99 per. For a week of fishing how many should I get?....

First cast one could be gone....how much $ are you willing to donate is the question...live bait is free and works well, unless you just like slinging lures.....they do work

Last time I bought frozen bait my stepdad forgot it in my car when it was 100 degrees... took months to air out. I'll just go for live bait. Sabikis or the ribbon thingy work better? Or both work just differently?

Need both.
Generally, ribbon rigs are the ticket for LYs, while sabikis are for sardines, cigar minnows (which seem to have made an appearance with year) and small hard tails.

Scaled Sardines.

As noted, LYs are actually scaled sardines. The pic I posted does not show Spanish sardine:

BTW, I was looking at the Rebel website, I dont think they make Windcheaters anymore.
I do also like the Basspro brand crankbaits. Academy also have some less expensive models that wont make you cuss quite so much when you get cutoff.

Are the hardtails the ones that have the little points on the underside. Seemed like last time i was at the pier no one liked to use them much for kingfishing,

No, those are crazy fish a/o leather jackets, and they will shred your hands quickly. And it will hurt like $$^$^$*@*!^%!#~!

BTW, Spanish Sardines are edible, grilled sardines are very popular all around the world, except in the US!

Bomber makes the wind cheater now. Both are Pradco brands.

I picked up a couple of shimano coltsnipers. Good looking jerkbait. Reminds me of the yozuri but with a movable internal weight that bumps them up to 1.13 oz and more. Haven't tried them on kings yet, but they cast a mile and run pretty. Folks to the east brag on them big time. I like the size 10 xraps for spanish -- kings hit them too. Just downsize to a 7.5 foot medium action with 10# braid, powerpro super slick is great, and you can throw the 10's a long way unless the wind is really howling out of the south. In which case, its time to be throwing a cig anyway. :)

I had a box full for X-Raps, Yozuri's, Sabille's and Lucky's.....no WAY I would throw them with all the tax men lurking 'round.

I averaged losing 8 (EIGHT) treble rigs per day for the 2 of us for 10 days. Imagine if that was $15/each.

I bought a couple of the Windcheaters in the 7/8 oz size. They do not retrieve all that great off a pier. They will work but not nearly as good as a XRap. I think there is a larger size Windcheater that would probably be better.

I put the small stick-on lead weights on a lot of my smaller crankbaits to get them to dive a little deeper and cast a little farther.
