Today is the end of my crappie season on Lake Guntersville until next fall. Got two weeks to get gear ready for a week of surf fishing at Ft. Morgan, and then devote my spare time to yard/house work and my lovely and sweet wife. The crappie are widely scatter on Lake Guntersville now, in pre-spawn, spawning, and some rough tailed post spawn being caught. These pics are some of the many large crappie that were C&R this season. I do not mean to be a tourist promoter for my local lake, more just an opportunity to brag about this past season. By the way, am getting a ghost shrimp pump this trip, and have no clue as to how you rig them. Any tips would be a help to me so as I can make Carolyn be the pompano superstar that she is meant to be. I am going to youtube the ghost shrimp rigs, but I would really rather hear any advice from the forum family more than I would from youtube.

Use #2 khale hook and thread the line in and out until it is all on the hook and sometimes way up your line. They are fragile. Crunchy on the head and tail and pure mush(like crappie eggs) in the middle. You will sling them off the hook if you try to make really long casts, but usually if you make it to the middle of the trough you are good.

Thanks, that is what I needed to know. Now, how do I teach that? Just joking. All our years of fishing in the Gulf, I have only ever seen one live ghost shrimp. Always something new to learn, and something new to look forward to.

Nice crappie! I don't think I could throw them back though, they just taste too good. It's a pretty good workout to catch ghost shrimp sometimes going through several holes to find one but usually worth it.

i usually use tongue depressors to measure my fish though. :(
