The Last Cobia I Half-Caught -
I haven't caught any Cobia since I moved down here about 3 1/2 years ago. This picture is of a cobia that I half-caught (six years ago)from my brother's boat in Ft. Pierce, FL. "Half-caught", because I hooked it and fought it for only a few minutes because I was due to have wrist reconstruction surgery (from a spring pompano fishing accident*) the following week. So it ended up being a team effort between me, my two brothers and my nephew.
What also made it a novelty was that I was using a herring-like baitfish fishing primarily for king mackerel. I like to experiment, so I was using an electric guitar string for my leader. I think that it was the "E" string, the thinnest. I never did catch a king on that trip out, but I did hook and land (with assistance) this nice cobia.
*another story for another time
