Go to J and M, they should have whatever you are looking for. Reasonable. Cash is welcome.
Where are you located Rick? May have 712 if you're interested.
I'd prefer newer styles than a 712 I've got one of those and a 303 Mitchell.
Also don't really want anything from j&m except bait occasionally
Try Walmart, they have a Shimano Sienna for $30 ;-)
Shimano Sahara is my favorite for fishing trout. Well balanced and lightweight, and handles the incidental redfish with ease.
Bass Pro and other retailers will carry it commonly and it's only around $70.
I've had the 4000 Sienna mentioned above for 2 or 3 years of heavy surf fishing use and I've definitely gotten my money's worth out of it fishing for groceries. I paid $30 on eBay for it as a new display/demo reel. It now sits on an Ugly Stik Lite in my truck for those spur of the moment fishing stops I sometimes make when the water looks too good to pass up.
I got a Sahara a month or so back and I love it. Awesome reel. Smooth as butter.
Hey now pier#r I got a sienna haha I've been wearing the trout and reds with it even hooked into a small tarpon at the fort
Not knockin 'em by any means!
The reel in this picture is a 12 year old Shimano TX 1000 (with 6# braid) I made up for whiting and pompano ;-)

and that's a 26# CPR black drum I'm holding in the other hand!
the penn fierce is also a good reel for the money all metal and smooth drag, love mine.
why do gulf shores people recommend such cheap shit... jesus lol get a stradic at least
We don't all have stacks like demmackeral! HaHa! Hey man, to each his own. I like nice gear as much as anybody, but I also know it's more about the fisherman than the fishing tackle. A lot of the people on this forum aren't everyday fishermen in the gulf and can't justify spending a wad on gear they are gonna use once or twice a year. Heck, after watching some vacationers fill a cooler with trout and flounder once, I wanted to get rid of my cart full of shimanos and Penns and get some of that Wally World gear they were fishing with! LOL!
Don't care for daiwa I've got 5 of the new spinfisher v reels and love them just looking for something smaller and lighter to play with basically
If you like the spinfishers you might want to check out the conflict. 2500 weighs a little over 9oz and has enough line capacity with six pound test to handle trout and reds. I have enjoyed the ones I have. Smooth little reels.
Van Stall reel, $700, The look on a fish's face when it discovers it was caught on an E-Bay Special, PRICLESS!

Conflict may be what you are looking for.
I've been seriously considering a conflict 2500 and another st.croix rod.
But for your consideration, I have a st croix legend xtreme inshore xis70mf brand new with tag. I'd like $325 for it.
I'm probably getting a g-loomis or tfo rod instead of a st.croix just to change it up since I have a couple already
It depends on what he means by "cheap shit". If it had Bill Dance's name slapped on it or a walmart combo then yea I would pass, but most of these brands offer nice reels for less money. I had a Shimano Sedona for 7 years that caught more fish than most of my high dollar reels combined..just sayin...
Fish can't tell the difference.
More a comment in agreement with Rockin (and you) about catching fish with older reels, but here goes.
I had just bought the reel from a guy. It didn't even have line on it. I spotted the fish cruising under the pier, threw the reel at him, and smacked that Freckled freak right in his gill hole. He floated to the top and I snagged him with a snatch hook.
No rope... just the snatch hook. :p
