I had a customer order a 8ft king rod and skimp out on me the other day. Its a batson forecast SW80ML with 5 pac bay Tich Coated guides, fuji reelseat, two EVA foam grips, winding checks, and black wraps. Rod has never had a reel on it, nor been in the sun light. I personally don't have the room for the rod so the first 150.00 takes it.

Rod is in Gulf Shores and I did not take a picture of it since its just all black.

The rod has sold but if you are interested in having one built I can post pictures of this one as an example.

Dont know yet. Depends on my work week!! But more than likely yes I will be fishing Saturday and Sunday. I would like to get UNA wrapped in there somewhere so no confusion with LSU... :spank: I have always noticed a custom built snob throws a cig so much better than my retail rods
Oh it would look different either way because UNA is purple and gold where as LSwho is purple and yellow.

I am a Bammer myself!! Since birth but playing for a school especially a program like UNA really gave me a better look at College Athletics outside the SEC. ;-) My friends just like to rag me about it...it doesnt bother me... I just bring out my conference championship ring and ask them how many Diamonds they earned!! :headbang:

What blank do you guys use to build the king rod?
It totally depends on the specific preference of the customer, as well as their preferred style of fishing for kings.
My personal favorite king rod is a old two piece that has been dubbed the pool cue.
Give me an example of a "pool Cue". At the first of this thread you said it was a batson blank that you had. I plan on using the King rig set up that J&M sells, along with a Cig.
I haven't found a rod similar to my pool que. it's a much stiffer rod than most people use for king fishing, but works great for me. The king rod forsale at j and m is built n a batson forecast blank. They make great live bait king rods and are tough as nails.
Jeb,I still have two of them 35 year old plus blanks if you have a need for'em.

Since I bought the rod that started this thread I thought a bit of a product review would be in order. My intent was for this to be my sons rod, and he finally got to go last week. It took him a while to get the hang of casting the longer rods. We both ended up using it. I found the rod to be surprisingly easy to fish with. The reel seat was perfectly placed to balance the rod. I got great casting distance with cigs and live bait. His first hookup was a stud king during the sharkfest on Thursday. I caught several with it on Friday
Action, sensitivity, strength, balance.....all were what I was looking for.
If you are thinking about a custom rod you won't regret getting Jeb to build it. And yes, it looks good too.
