Spearhead Jigs

I am listing 3 lots of my spearhead jigs for sale.* These are created by me from start to finish.** Hooks are Eagle Claw 635 saltwater hooks,* molded, painted, baked, hand tied and coated with Sally Hanson's Hard as Nails.** There is a mixture of bucktail and crimped nylon.** Silver heads are painted with silver glitter nail polish and coated with Hard as Nails.** They give off a great flash.* Jigs shown in photos with the smaller heads at top and heavier heads at the bottom.** I enjoy tying these and fishing them from the pier.** They have worked very well for us on the pier.* I live in Indiana so through the mail is how they will come to you.** USPS to the 48 states only, upon receipt of payment.** I'm not trying to get rich or become a professional I just enjoy making jigs and love it when folks are catching fish on my stuff,* I'm just trying to recoup some of the material costs.* Lot #1 has 4 jigs at 3 / 8oz* and 6 at 1 / 2oz.** Lot #2 has 5 jigs at 1 / 4oz,* 4 at 3 / 8oz, and 1 at 1 / 2oz.** Lot #3 has 10 jigs at 3 / 8oz.
First come first serve basis,* if this goes well,* I will make more.* :-)

Have you ever made any of the feather hair jigs being used for Bass fishing ?

I have tied all sorts of stuff. If you want to send me pictures. I might have the materials? I can send you my cell number if that makes it easier

Tato my assumption is you are talking about these? They are called out by several different names depending upon who is tying them and what they are targeting. To answer your question I have not yet.... my feathers are buried in another box of material. You have peaked my interest though, I will give it a shot. I've been tying mainly walleye and sauger jigs for a buddy of mine lately, but as mentioned I tie a little bit of everything.... from flies, to 1/64oz bluegill jigs, medium sizes for crappie, small mouth and large mouth, up to the bigger jigs for stripers, Mackerel and whatever in the Gulf is hungry. With the jigs listed here we have had success on large mouth and stripers in fresh water. Spanish mackerel, blue fish, lady fish, hardtail, and a few flounder.

Yep that looks just like the Cumberland model I just looked at Tackle Warehouse. They hit the Bass fishing market big time 2 years ago at Kentucky Lake. We got a trip planned back there Memorial Week to fish the Triton Owners Tournament.

I watched a few YouTube videos on them. Got my interest up. There is a fly called a Lefty's Deciever, I learned about a few months ago which looks to be tied in the same manner. Both have been around forever but the jigs seem to have made a huge resurgence in the recent years. I will let you know if I can figure it out.

What size hook and what weight head in pic #2?

Those two pictures came from Google. I was looking for something to answer Tato's questions. I haven't yet tied any of these particular styles. However, if I was guessing, I would say th he bottom picture with the ball jigs are probably 3/8 oz or 1/2oz which should be a 2/0 or 3/0 hook.

A smaller version would be not only possible but much easier. From what research I have done the jigs the bass guys are throwing are 3/8 to 1oz feather and hair swimbaits basically ranging 4.5 to 6 inches. The issue is you need white bucktail with hairs 5 inches plus and very large hackle feathers. I guy is going to dig through lots of materials to tie up jigs that big. I guess I need to shoot bigger bucks? :-)

If you tied some in 3/4-1oz they would be good for tailrace stripers here in Oklahoma. 1/2 oz is minimal for the casting distance needed.

Fordguy if you want me to make you some I can do that. My mold will make 3/4 and 1 oz. You can PM me your cell if you are interested.

I like 3/4 oz......but I tend to use slightly heavier line then others....1/2oz is good for 10lb or less line weight....for the drop rate I have found......good looking jigs

Haven't for awhile.....but will be, need to make at least 1 gaff for the Bryan Bennett tourney, so might as well do some jigs too.....didn't use many my last trip to Panama city piers.....no fish/bait baito

What is the smallest size hook(corrosion resistant-saltwater) that you can make with a 1oz jig? I'm thinking flounder and possible pompano (tied with short nylon hair)

Chillinfish I will get you a definite answer tomorrow when I can get to my molds in the shop. But off the top of my head I have two options in 1 ounce. I can make a football jig in 1 ounce and get a 1/0 or 2/0 maybe in it. My spearhead jig mold in 1 oz I've tried 1/0 and 2/0 and I thought they were way to short. I didn't like them and melted them back down. I'll look tomorrow and see what I can come up with. I have some 3/0 and 4/0 hooks ordered that will work in that mold great. The football jig will definitely be the smallest profile if that's what your after.

A short shank, narrow gap hook with a heavy head is what I would like for flounder and pompano. 1/0 bass style jig hooks have a wide gap that would be difficult for a pompano or flounder to get in its mouth. I made a few of my "Arky" style jig heads and got bites, but few hookups. I may be asking for a unicorn but I see this style jig/hook combination hanging on wooden displays on the counters at the GS/OB bait shops. I would just like a heavier jig (3/4-1oz) for casting distance and fast sinking.

Chillinfish next time I fire up the lead pot, which should be in the next few days, I will mold up a couple football jigs in 3/4 & 1 oz on a 1/0 & 2/0 saltwater hook. I will post a couple pictures and see what you think. If you don't like it then I'll melt it back down.

Those look awesome but I think the hook is about 1/2" too long for what I'm looking for. Any idea if the football head will sit on the bottom with the hook up at 45 degrees from the bottom like a standup jig? Get me a $ on about 3 dozen of the 1oz in white and a dozen in orange.

Chillinfish it is my belief that the football jig is supposed to stand-up like your saying. I just got the mold and have not had the opportunity to fish anything I had made. I will PM you with my cell number. We can get together on an order.

Common name for hair jigs with long feather tails is "Preacher Jigs". My wife makes them for us and friends. They look phenonomal in the water, and have proven effective.
