3D printed lures...

a therapist i work with has been playing around with his 3d printer making respirator parts, models and other cool things..
Today he showed me a diving lure he started. Its very close to some deep running lures i used for stripe in weiss lake. I am hoping that he will have a prototype completed and painted to try on spanish.
A couple questions for those that make jigs and lures. What type of paint works the best and gives durability. And what type hooks and wire would you run on a lure thats very similar to the xraps?

I was thinking about having a 4in one made up with a deep dive lip and slots to weigh it down. I can't wait to see its action in the water.

I've used my homemade stuff primarily in freshwater, but I've really liked the gamakatsu round bend treble hooks. As for wire- I've never been too picky. Just make sure its strong enough for your purpose and able to withstand the salt- or make sure you rinse and examine your lures before each use.
As for paint- I've used flat white spray bomb on a lot of lures. Its cheap, goes on fast, and its easy to touch up when things get scraped up by fish teeth. Not that tue touch up is usually needed. The fish seem to like the beat up chewed on look just as well as the full coat of flat white.
I'll admit it... I'm a bargain shopper, especially when it comes to something that I stand a good chance of eventually losing to fish, or rocks, or debris in the river.
And somehow, I still catch fish... Occasionally. Lol

I may add some shiny tinsil to the tail section..

For the teaser on the tail treble I go to hobby lobby and buy tinsel and a rope of marabou feather material. Its very easy to wrap it on the hook with nylon thread and use nail polish to keep the thread in place. I like red thread and clear nail polish- it contrasts nicely with the yellow, pink, or white marabou feathers. I've noticed that i catch more fish on the lures with teasers on the tail treble.

I noticed that too. I have added teasers to my gotchas and seem to have better luck. Ill try the nail polish for sure. Thanks!

A word of caution about the marabou material from hobby lobby- your significant other will probably appreciate it if you work with it in the garage rather than in the livingroom. Tiny pieces of feather will tear free when you pull out or cut off what you need, and those tiny pieces will float around for quite a while. Found this out the hard way... And caught quite a bit of grumbling about it. Lol.
