nope...already received the sleeves and crimper....but was going to buy another crimper that would crimp the smaller sleeve. Lesson learned...ask before you leap.

Sleeves and coated wire work great for repairing wind chimes!
simplicity is best for king fishing. You need to know how to figure 8 know a 7 strand leader. The Crimping mess is just extra unnecessary work and something else to fail. Old school gets it done.
Picked one of these up and it makes a nice Haywire Twist. J&M had them.
There are 2 sizes we got the large one.

I know John G has switched to a simple over hand knot when tying 7 strand but he taught me to run the leader thru the eye of the hook or swivel. Then tie a double overhand knot but don't cinch it down then follow up with the haywire twist when a fish eats and you set the hook it cinches down tight .Or you can use just the simple Overhand knot I believe John has proven that it will hold
I am a little OCD and don't like the tag end of the wire where it can stab you so I tend to stay away from the overhand or figure eight. Instead I use a snell on the hook side and a double overhand followed by a haywire on the swivel end when using 7 strand. Sometimes I use the double overhand on both sides if I want the hook to have more freedom.
Thank you for all the posts. I learned a lot...specifically about the simple knots on 7 strand wire. I bought the AFW size 1 but the crimper was to large for it. Also learned you are not to use 7 strand with sleeves/crimping. I'll try to use them by hard "crimping" with regular needle nose pliers. Its great to know that now I have two options. I'm also ordering some single strand wire...since I've already invested in the sleeves and crimper.
I've always liked Calvins method of snelling with sevenstrand, and a figure 8 on the swivel end. It takes a little more practice but I think it lets the hook sit a little straighter. When the bite is hot, and the leaders are running low, I just tie a quick figure 8 and go. Its handy to have a dozen or 2 in reserve.
This isn't Calvin's video, but is essentially the same method with a couple of extra features added.
