Where are some good places around the Gulf Shores and Orange Beach area to pump ghost shrimp ?
They are everywhere along the beach, you just have to get far enough out so that the bottom isn't agitated by surf and you can see their little volcanoes. The water is so warm that you could pput on a snorkel and mask and find some really big ones.
So out on the first bar?
Unless the first bar is very close to the beach, I would not go that far. Just go out past the "broken shell and debris" zone of the surf. Usually starts a yard or two farther out than the waves break. It will be rippled sand with very little broken shell, just smooth bottom. The little "volcano's" of sand with the hole in the middle are ghost shrimp dens. I have never slurped them from knee deep water, but I guess you could. Just carry a small mesh net with you and discharge your slurp into the net? That might work. Otherwise, wait til low tide and soft surf and try to find some mounds in the lower surf zone.
Their holes are everywhere along the beach. Best time to look and slurp is at low tide when the surf is calm. Having a little one with a small net to scoop them up as you slurp is a big help.
Thanks guys, see ya end of the month
Can you get ghost shrimp suckers at j and m.
Yes, you can. Good ones. Better than the one I put together.
What is the price for J&M's ghost shrimp pumps? I have never owned one and feel I must have one.
If nobody answers, you may just want to private-message john g.
I want to take a good look at the ghost shrimp pumps at J & M sometime. I saw them for sale, but I didn't notice the price, since I already have my own. But if the ones at J & M can suck out more volume, I'd be willing to toss mine for one that is more efficient.
