Help with my 706

My 706 developed a bad habit of the drag randomly catching and locking up, and of course promptly breaking the line. I took her apart and the very last drag washer is corroded pretty bad, and I can't get it out to replace it. It seems like it may have corroded into the spool a little bit, but looks like if I can get it out and put a new one in there I won't have any problems.

Usually keep it pretty clean but got a little lazy on the maintenance and it sat in the closet for a year and now I am stuck with a problem.

Any brilliant ideas on getting that last washer out without damaging my spool? OR A place I can send it and get it back by early August? Am headed down to the pier swelter in the heat and on the off chance a big king doesn't know he isn't supposed to eat my bait in that hot August water I want to have it working!

Put a few drops of Kroil on the washer and let it sit overnight, then give it a few taps around the edges to loosen it up, turn the spool upside down and slap it flat down onto a wood surface a few times. If that doesn't jar it loose, try catching the inside edge with a dental tool to lift it out.

Just my $0.02, someone else may have a more finesse solution.

you need some PB Blaster it is the best penetrating lubricant you can buy.

More than likely it's a bent shaft or the rotor nut is loose if the reel is locking up.

Yeah, hopefully it's just a loose rotor cup nut since the 'hangup' is intermittent.

It looks as if Mike has waived the customary disposal fee. You need to jump on that deal Lew.

Thanks so much for everyone's advice. I am going to try and tackle it tonight and see if I can get the drag running smooth again. I've had it about 15 years and this is the first problem I have ever had, despite some pretty rough use. Lots of surf and sand in that reel at one time or another through the years and it just keeps on cranking.

And Mike, as much I appreciate your offer to "dispose" of it for me, with no fee to boot, I just can't bear the thought of giving you that burden and having it cut into your fishing time! ;)
