IQF Shrimp
Does anyone know if I can vacuum seal IQF shrimp? I received a large quantity of them in a big plastic bag that was tied shut and I'd like to preserve them in smaller meal portions for my wife and I, but I'm not sure this will work. I don't want to leave them in the large bulk bag for fear of freezer burn by the time they are used up. Any ideas?

Sure, with Individual quick frozen shrimp they are brought down to well Below -0 temps. Your normal freezer may or may not get down to 0. so it would be a good idea. I have done this with shrimp and quick frozen cod Filets.

Vacuum packing will certainly help but keeping them in a deep freezer that is NOT frost free at 0 degrees will be even better.

If the have the tails on (or heads) they tend to puncture the vacuum bags, so its not really worth the effort.

Good advice CarlF. Never thought of that.
Now another problem. I have a friend wanting me to bring him about 15lbs of fresh shrimp when I travel to Northern Wisconsin this summer. It usually takes me a two day drive and my fish stay closed in the cooler and still frozen when I get there. However, this will be a three day adventure and I'm wondering how to best keep the shrimp. Should I try and freeze them or keep adding ice and draining the water when I stop for the night. Will Shrimp keep on fresh ice for three days. Any ideas?
