bored, so started to replenish the jigs(3/4 & 1/2oz) and no roll sinkers(sent all I had down there) , need to make a fluid bed for the powder painting instead of dipping, that works ok, but the fluid bed would be more consistent and maybe use less powder paint.... so they say??
plus wouldn't need the jar as full and still be able to paint jigs
using up the last of the corn mold lead to move outside and pour some more to use in the melting pots....those 20lb plates don't fit too good
thinking about pouring my jigs/weights. If you don't mind my asking, how much would you say it costed you to get started?
more then I cared for....first 4lb pot was 20.....then the 10lb production pot was 30 both used then I got a new 4lb pot for the bigger stuff(40?) that didn't fit under the production pot....around 10.00 per 100 hooks(shipped) the lead was free the only reason I started doing it in the first place and have poured several hundred pounds for down the when I was going off shore....what I do now is nothing compared to then except when I do the pier gaff's powder paint off of ebay at a decent price?? a small toaster oven to bake the jigs after the painting, a dewalt heat gun (40) at a pawn shop looked new, then the price of the molds that I didn't make around 30 each or more....should get most of the money back when the lead is all gone and resale everything but who knows....I have to look at the entertainment factor and knowledge I am getting..... friends being made when sharing and so on, some you can't put a price on

It can be costly. Unless you are planning on selling or you use lead at an extremely high rate, you'll be a long time breaking even. I can't say I've ever found anything particularly enjoyable about it. It's hot and messy and it's not a matter of if you get
burned, but how often and how badly. Sooner or later you'll get splashed or touch a hot pot or mold or pick something up or burn through your gloves.....
Thinking about the same thing Snake. Looked at an electric melter on Amazon and lead suppliers. Would like to make my own jigs and weights as well. Maybe even sell some of them in our family business just for something to do. Like to make a version of a Looney jig as well as for panfish, bass and trout/salmon jigs. This is a site that I learned quite a bit from and their prices aren't to bad, think you can do better though if you look around. The fluid beds are easy to make and they do make things easier.
