I appreciate the offer, but me and little brother are going to struggle through the first one. I'm sure it will be like most of our projects, it will have some character. Or what some call flaws. :fishing:

Sounds like "LoveBug" lamination in the works ;) :D
Gotta luv it, and it'll catch fish just as well as them "purdy rods"! :headbang:

Re: My first rod build
Chuck looks a tad over complicated but if it works for you use it.

If DRH liked my winding stand he will love my drying motor. [/quote]
You sure called that one right.

Yeah, I'm having a time trying to figure it out myself. I think that I have got it figured out though and agree if it works use it.

No, please take some pictures of your rod as you are drying the finish. I'd like to see this thing in action. Good luck.

Re: My first rod build
I personally think the drying chucks John uses are some of the best, for the simple fact you can stop the rod and the chuck keeps spinning. It really comes in handy when working finish around the guides.

Re: My first rod build
Do you use the same type chuck as John uses, Pest?
-
Re: My first rod build
Yes. My drying racks are designed off of John's. He has been probably the most influential person in my rod building progression over the past few years.

Re: My first rod build
It will be a few days or a couple of weeks before I can finish the rod I'm on Midnights this week and go to seconds next. But I will post some pics good, bad or UGLY when I can. J&M might want to place some orders :yay:

I'm working on a DYI drying motor. I will post a pic when I finnish it. If DRH liked my winding stand he will love my drying motor. If I run into any snags I will take you up on your offer Thanks. One question though, is the RPM of the rod drying motor critical? From what I found on the net 6-9 RPM, and around 4 or 5 hours to dry.

You can get an already made DIY drying motor off E-bay for cheap...worked great for me for the first year.

Re: My first rod build
I will probably buy some real equipment before I do anouther one. I just enjoy seeing what I can make for myself. Sometimes it works out and sometimes its just a learning experience.
