Thread: Stren Magnathin

Any thoughts on the performance of Stren's magnathin . I've been using it .Seems to do the job. I can get about a third more line capacity out of my reels and the knot retention is good . Cost is about the same as for other name brand mono line . $13 for the 330 yard spool . Is there another brand I should try ?

My experience with the magnathin wasn't good, but I only tried the smaller diameter test. If I remember it was 6#. I only bought one spool.

For the price you mentioned you could get a spool of momoi illusion. It has a thinner diameter and is incredibly strong. Casts further than any other line I've ever used in the heavier (10 to 16) tests. 300 yards runs from 10 to 13 bucks.

For the light lines I've discovered, with the help of this forum, the marvelous yozuri hybrid. It's strength per diameter ratio is mystifying, and with a good line conditioner on it I've had no problems with memory or twisting. It lasts and lasts and lasts. Can't say enough good about it in 4 lb test.
