Reel Seat

Okay, the reel seat on my Profile rod has been loose for a while. I was gonna take it to J&M to have them fix it but thought I might want to try my hand at fixing myself first if possible. The cork above the handle is spiral wrapped so I know I can unravel it and reuse it. My question is where do I go from there. Obviously sand the adhesive off left by the cork then slide the seat up. But where from there. I have the heat glue(same kind you melt and use for putting tips on with, john gave it to me, not the cheap stuff), so would I use that to reglue the seat back in place? What would I use to put the cork back on as far as adhesive? I do know the other obvious thing is making sure the seat is lined up properly. Thanks guys!

The tip top glue is not going to work in this application. You are going to need some slow cure epoxy that John and I use for reelseats. Also the cork tape that is wrapped on won't be usable afterwards, so you will need a section of that as well to complete the repair.

Ok. Next time I am in OB I will stop by The Rod Room and pick the stuff up. Any brand in particular on the epoxy or specific kind. Thanks Jeb. Trying to learn what I can on rod repair/building. It is a cheaper rod so that's why I want to work on it. If I screw it up, it won't be a huge loss.

This is what I found when I slid the reel seat up. At the top part the was a rubber foam piece and right below it was twine soaked in epoxy. No wonder it came loose. Not quite what I was expecting. What should I do to reset the seat? Do the same process and wrap twine around the blank then epoxy and slide the reel seat back down? I know there has to be a better way.

Make tape arbors with 1/2" wide masking tape then apply the epoxy and slide the reelseat back down over the arbors. You are also going to want to wrap the threads of the reelseat with electrical tape to keep the glue from getting them. Once the reelseat has cures over night, then replace the front grip
