Re: Tried ??
Got one for Christmas but with new job haven't had a chance to use it yet. Settled in and now just waiting on a weekend of decent weather. Goes for +- $160. I like the feel of it in my hands and as well as the look of it. It feels sturdy but only weighs in at about 21 oz. Balance point on 7.5' rod is the cork just in front of the reel seat.
Fish. Just fish.

Re: Tried ??
That sound like a good setup . I especially like the weight of the reel . I 've been using a Penn 7500 and it works great ,but it wears me out holding it all day . I 'll be looking forward to hearing just how it performs . Thanks for the info .

That's the same reel I'm planning on getting to put on an 8' rod for kings. Think that should work okay for em off the pier?

Re: Tried ??
Absolutely. Looking at the capacity, I think you have a couple of choices of line. About 250 yards of 30 lb braid backing and about 150 or so of 15 lb mono topshot. Or, as I suspect I'll do, I'll go more yards of a lighter braid and mono both-- something along the lines of 300 yds of 20lb braid and 200 yds or so of 12 lb mono.
Fish. Just fish.

Re: Tried ??
Wilson had one, drag sucked, I'd take a battle over it
Give a googan a king, and he can eat for a day. But teach a googan how to kingfish, and he'll be dead of mercury poisoning inside of three years

Re: Tried ??
Hmm. Hate to hear that. What was the issue with it? Other than it sucked.

Jerky feeling drag, not smooth at all, and I wasn't impressed with them for some reason at all

Any chance he just got a bad one? All the reviews I've read were lights out.

Re: Tried ??
Check out Alan Hawk's review of Penns new V reels . (alanhawk.com) Maybe the one he tested was the exception rather than the rule .Let's hope .

This Thanksgiving, I'm thankful for an abundant fishery and a magnificent pier, from which to access that fishery. I'm thankful for the morning view of the sunrise and what a spectacular view it is...
Happy Thanksgiving!
