Thanks for all the responses. Has anyone used the Sig AR's? I want reliable and functional for under 2k.I feel that I should be able to find it in that range.
Agree all the way around DD . Which I don't often . Even the #4 buckshot is a better choice than the commonly suggested 00 buckshot .
IMO for home defense a tac shotgun pump action(18" barrel) is unparalleled. The sound alone from loading it is the universal sound for get the hell out....
The AR type platform rifles are great for utter chaos/shtf scenarios....or zombies ;)
I guess it would be safe to say you may be more confused on what you want now. I'd say for shoot and move .556 but for straight up this is my house come get it .308.
Do like I do, just get yourself one of everything, shoot the hell out of'em, pick what ya like best & acquire more variations.
.223/5.56 or .308/7.62x51... 9mm or .45acp... The great debate starters, religion & politics, lets argue... LOL.
Also, a thread like this one, demands gun porn.
You say you already have a tactical shotty, then you already have the best firearm for dealing with the scenario posed.
In my opinion, a reliable shotgun & knowing how to handle & reload in combat situations, is the ideal weapon for dealing with crowds at close range & home defense.Quote:
It will a gun that I hope I never need to use for the reason I'm buying it. Knock down power for a crowd of thugs, like in Ferguson.
Take the time & spend the money to take a few basic & combat shotgun courses, money/time well spent, will teach you maintenance, setup, shooting & reloading skills.
Highly modified, semi-auto, Saiga12 with MD20 drum.

Plain Jane, pump action goodness, a Mossberg 500 with night sights.
No evil blackness needed, demands respect as is

OK, you really want a rifle/carbine, lets stick with your scenario & pick our weapons accordingly.
The short list is a good AK in either 7.62x39 or 5.45x39.
If I was to pick any firearm to throw in a closet, truck, tent or ditch for a year or ten, & then fully expect it to function 100%, it is an AK.
Probably one of the most reliable, durable, effective & intimidating firearms.
Speaking of intimidating, thugs have a healthy respect for the 12g & AK, they know them & they know that a determined individual with one is to be respected.

But you don't want an AK, OK get an AR or some other Battle Rifle in whichever caliber gets your wood hard.

You already have a couple of handguns. Great, cause everyone should have several, and one or two they really like and are good with.
The one you Carry, you do carry, right? Hope so, cause you need to be very comfortable with it & able to hit someone when it counts.
Is it setup properly, does it have night sights, does it mount a light/laser, do you have a high cap mag or two?
Night sights: A must for low light & night time, ever notice the roaches come out when the lights go out?
Light/laser: Not a must have, but a nice to have.
High cap mags: No not the Libtards anything over 10rds, I'm talking 30+. generally a range toy for fun plinking, but when the zombies gather en masse, you'll appreciate one or two.

Another option is to combine your calibers and get rifle/SBR & pistol that shares a common caliber, e.g. 9mm or .45acp.
There are even some out there that allow you to use the same mags for each weapon, can you say convenience?
Chile, that M1A is a beauty.
