I never noticed any on the pier....but then it was with gale force winds too....so if calm winds...... maybe
I had some biting gnats or something eat me up on the octi two weeks ago, but that was the only time this year.
Git ya a can of bug repellent and just put it in your tackle box. You don't have to put it on, if ya buy it you won't need it, if you don't have it with you they will eat ya alive
a thermocell is a wonderful thing for repelling skeeters.
Never had a problem with skeeters on the GSPPier.
Biting flies can gitcha on the beach in the late summer sometimes (when a north wind blows), but for some reason they don't usually fly up to the pier 8)
Gnats and flying ants can be a nuisance on the pier sometimes (usually warm, muggy mornings) when the wind is light or offshore.
There was an incursion of a bee swarm once (2011 or 2010) and that was CARAZY!
If the wind is calm, we have been getting chewed by mosquitos and other bugs on the Octi around 4am until the sun makes a full appearance in the morning, then they disappear. Once the wind picks up, they are gone as well.
I have started putting my sunscreen on early when this happens, and it seems to repel them away.
Thanks - I will see you in a couple weeks

That's because you would probably figure out a way to catch some alive, rig them up and catch a state record tarpon
