    Buoy 42012 info

Just checked water temp approaching 67 degrees. Hopefully in a week or so with the air temps. hitting the mid to upper 70's the Mackerel will be heading north.

Yesterday I got a 62 deg reading on the beach at Al Point, seems buoy 42012 reads at 2 meters below water line in 25m of water. I am waiting on the 70's also for Mackerel and others. Everyday I look to see if piers in FL are getting Spanish and Kings.

Keep in mind those higher readings are just 'spikes' in the water temperature.
Often wrought by the midday sun on these longer days warming the sensor, or the top layer of water (2 meters below the surface in 25.9 meter deep water, that is about 80 feet).
In 12 hours or so the water temp drops to the ambient temperature of the gulf...

In other words, concentrate on the 'average', not the peaks and valleys on the graph...

With the sensor about 200 yards northwest of the bridge, the water temp at Perdido Pass is heavily tidally tilted.
Falling tides draw the water from Cotton Bayou, Terry Cove and Perdido Bay.
A rising tide brings in water from the gulf.
The resulting graph reflects the daily valley and peak of the tide (salinity also ;-)

Both graphs show the average water temperature increasing the past few days to about 65.
Hopefully, that trend will continue through the weekend and most of next week as we are predicted to have highs above 70 each day (unless the fog caps the warming).
But the days are getting longer (in total hours) and the sunlight that reaches the water is getting a little stronger each day...

Hit 71.5 degrees yesterday and report is a few Spanish are being caught. Steve or Stephanie should be catching that first King sometime next week if the water clears up.

... and back down to 66 this morning.

But the 'average' water temp has made a nice rise overall this past week (62 to about 68).
Looking MUCH better now (on average ;-)
