Lizzy and I set off to the swamp last season. I had set up a blind in a half acre opening that was a popular crossing for deer going from the swamp to higher ground and pine thickets.
I had missed one doe previously at nearly 90 yards, so I made sure my longest shot was 50 yards.
It was about 315pm as we slipped down the trail to the back of the opening where I set up the blind, Lizzy toted her tablet and walkers game ears, as I carried our other gear, snacks etc. I propped my Henry Big Boy 44 up in the corner, got Lizzy situated with her tablet and plugged it into her walkers game ears, we played tic tac toe and other games while we waited for a deer to come on out. at about 4, Lizzy curled up and went to sleep, not long after a doe stepped out at about 8 yards, I got my gun up, hammer back, and put it on her shoulder... Then I realized Liz was asleep... I reached with one hand to attempt waking her up, no such luck.
The doe noticed my barrel shaking and trotted off. I waited about 15 minutes and she came back, but was all the way across the opening in the wood line.
She did the classic, paw the dirt, bob and weave her head, trying to catch me. Thankfully the blind has the mesh drapes that I keep down for extra concealment.
She closed the gap to around 50 yards, and turned broadside. I sent a 220grain down range and laid her out.
Lizzy slept through it all. The Game Ears are amazing. I woke her up and she was pretty excited that we got one.
2019 will be the season she takes her 1st one. She is so excited. but I think i'm more exited than her....
