Nice one. I caught an old tomcat 20 years ago while trapping raccoons, he was about that big. Huge paws, hardly any teeth left. He wasn't happy to see me at all when I walked up to check that trap......
It sounds like your describing me, but I can't remember being caught in a trap.Quote:

They are turkey killing machines and they also take new born whitetail fawns from time to time. That one should make a nice mount for your man cave.

We usually kill 4 or 5 in our camp each year....they like to come to the edge of the patches and look for rabbits...that's a nice size kitty for down here....
My coon hounds would put a pussy up a tree once in awhile but they would jump out as soon as they saw the lights and then the chase would be on again, damn things!!! I have never shot one. The neighbors dogs caught one on the ground once and he lost a good dog in the battle, never got the cat. We had a den of them up the valley, about a 1/2 mile, and it was one of them that got his dog. I never hunted coon up because they were up there, and they will ruin a hunt for you. Some one in Northern MN. shot a 47#er a few years back but I think they run bigger up here.
On average they do run a good bit bigger in the northern region. 15 to 20 lbs here and twice that up north, average sizes.Quote:

I never have seen one that I thought would make a good mount down here in the south part of the state. The pelts never seem to fill out and get pretty like they do a little further north. I'll never forget the one I called up while turkey hunting---came up from behind me and was fixated on the hens further down the ridge. I think it saw me when I blinked. I tried to shoot it as it took off, but it was like throwing a corn cob at a lightning bolt.

i had one sneak in behind me yesterday morning but it never offered a shot. the first one i have ever seen from a stand.
I never saw them until we had turkeys move in to the area I hunt in Southern Middle Tennessee. We aren't allowed to legally shoot them until opening of gun deer season. I see at least a couple every year during bow season and the young ones are fascinated by a hen decoy in the spring but they don't seem to have the guts to attack it.
They fall in the predator category here. You can use whatever weapon that has a season at that time. With a bobcat you do have to get a free permit after you harvest it. I don't think you can kill them on Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge, which is the redge nearest me.Quote:
