Gulf Oil Spills
Did anybody catch the article in the B'ham News about all the rigs leaking oil in the gulf? I didn't read it all and guess the paper got thrown away but do remember reading that 1 well knocked down by Ivan is fast approaching the amount of oil that was spilled from the Deep Water Horizon in 2010. Wonder if all the oil being dumped in the gulf could be the reason the sharks have come ashore. It's something to think about. I found it under AL.Com 14 year long Gulf of Mexico oil leak one of the worst in US History.

Taylor Energy has a well that's been leaking since Ivan destroyed the platform. The numbers have been supposedly under reported as to the amount that is leaking. The platform is supposed to be submerged in about 150' of muck which is what is keeping the well from being capped. Hope the oil eating bacteria stay hungry.

No, a spill that far away and leaking that slowly is not going to cause changes in our coastal shark population.
This spill is a steady drip compared to the BP gusher. Most of the oil is getting eaten by bacteria in the sediment and water column. There are single natural seeps in the gulf that almost peak as much oil daily. And there are hundreds of such natural seeps. Not saying the Taylor ongoing spill is not an issue but putting it into perspective. Also it is buried under 150’ of underwater landslide. It’s unclear if there is any viable solution. I doubt they even know which well in the cluster is leaking.
